In 2005 Save the Children funded a workshop for the Collaborative to train young people in the research skill of facilitating focus groups with young people. Ten young people took part and two of them went on to contribute to the work of the Collaborative, in research and training endeavours.
In 2006 a training day was arranged for the Canterbury Youth Workers Collective on Youth Development and Mental health for Young people, and a series of workshops on Youth Development has been undertaken in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth Development.
A workshop was run for nurses, counselors and youth workers working in schools in West Auckland at the beginning of 2006. A Parent education evening was held in October 2006 and plans for more are underway.

Workshops for public health nurses in communication skills with adolescents and the HEADSS asessment, plus brief interventions in mental health.
Workshop for Staff at the Mornington PHO in Dunedin, Communication skills and working with young people.
Training has been ongoing with the GP training programmes in the South Island, social workers, school nurses, and teachers.

A Profile of Young People Attending Youth AOD Services in Aotearoa and Factors Associated with AOD Treatment Retention Ria Schroder presented her study on the factors affecting the way in which services can ensure young people stay in treatment
